Dr. Brett Houlberg
Dr. Houlberg is a co-founder of Orchard Park Animal Hospital. He was born in Wisconsin and grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He has loved animals his whole life, declaring that he wanted to be a veterinarian as early as 6th grade and then proceeding to make that dream come true. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1990 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) with a degree in zoology in 1993. During this time he worked as a veterinary nurse.
After graduating from UW, Dr. Houlberg attended the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation in 1997, Dr. Houlberg worked in Johnson City, Tennessee for a year. In 1998, he moved to the Atlanta area where he practiced for 3 more years before finally settling in the Nashville area in the fall of 2001. He has worked in Hendersonville, as well as the Nashville (Rivergate) Pet Emergency Clinic. Dr. Houlberg’s patients include small animals and exotics. His interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and geriatric care.
Dr. Houlberg married his wife Shelley in February 2007. They met while he was caring for her sick ferret, Phillipe, and have been inseparable ever since. The Houlbergs have two sons (Landon, born in 2009, and Austin, born in 2012).
Dr. Houlberg is an avid football fan and cheers on the Vols, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers. His other interests include paintball, camping, fishing, reading, movies, playing cards and spending time with friends and family. He looks forward to practicing for the rest of his career at Orchard Park Animal Hospital.
