In 1998, he moved to the Atlanta area where he practiced for 3 more years before finally settling in the Nashville area in the fall of 2001. He has worked in Hendersonville, as well as the Nashville (Rivergate) Pet Emergency Clinic. Dr. Houlberg’s patients include small animals and exotics. His interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and geriatric care.

Dr. Houlberg married his wife Shelley in February 2007. They met while he was caring for her sick ferret, Phillipe, and have been inseparable ever since. The Houlbergs have two sons (Landon, born in 2009, and Austin, born in 2012).

Dr. Houlberg is an avid football fan and cheers on the Vols, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers. His other interests include paintball, camping, fishing, reading, movies, playing cards and spending time with friends and family.
