Dr. Brett Houlberg
Dr. Houlberg is a co-founder of Orchard Park Animal Hospital. He was born in Wisconsin and grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He has loved animals his whole life, declaring that he wanted to be a veterinarian as early as 6th grade and then proceeding to make that dream come true. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1990 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) with a degree in zoology in 1993. During this time he worked as a veterinary nurse.
After graduating from UW, Dr. Houlberg attended the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation in 1997, Dr. Houlberg worked in Johnson City, Tennessee for a year. In 1998, he moved to the Atlanta area where he practiced for 3 more years before finally settling in the Nashville area in the fall of 2001. He has worked in Hendersonville, as well as the Nashville (Rivergate) Pet Emergency Clinic. Dr. Houlberg’s patients include small animals and exotics. His interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and geriatric care.
Dr. Houlberg married his wife Shelley in February 2007. They met while he was caring for her sick ferret, Phillipe, and have been inseparable ever since. The Houlbergs have two sons (Landon, born in 2009, and Austin, born in 2012).
Dr. Houlberg is an avid football fan and cheers on the Vols, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers. His other interests include paintball, camping, fishing, reading, movies, playing cards and spending time with friends and family. He looks forward to practicing for the rest of his career at Orchard Park Animal Hospital.
Drs. Terri and Whit Cothern
The Cotherns went into partnership with Dr Houlberg at the beginning of 2018. Dr. Terri Cothern has been a veterinarian at Orchard Park since 2016. During her career, she’s had the opportunity to work at veterinary clinics in Delaware, Florida, Wisconsin, Illinois, Georgia, and North Carolina. But she recognized early on that Orchard Park Animal Hospital had that special something that set it apart from all the others.
Dr Terri is originally from Delaware where her family still resides. She graduated from the University of Delaware in 1992 and then the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine (UTCVM) in 1996. She’s especially interested in the human-animal bond and preventative medicine. In her free time she enjoys horseback riding, reading, and painting.
Dr. Whit Cothern grew up on a tobacco, hay, and cattle farm in Smith County, TN where his parents still reside. He graduated from MTSU in 1993 and UTCVM in 1997. Whit started his veterinary career at a mixed-animal practice in Lebanon and then practiced small animal medicine in Florida. In 2004 he started working in the animal health industry and spent over 13 years at various companies in numerous roles.
Because this career necessitated constant travel, had resulted in five relocations, and would likely require more, together the Cotherns decided it was time to put down some roots. When their friends and former classmates (the Drs. Horner) expressed interest in selling their practice, the Cotherns knew this was the place for them. Dr Terri continues to see patients on a regular basis while Dr. Whit is focused on being the practice manager and part-time Mr. Mom. They reside in the New Shackle Island area of Hendersonville where their two children (Elena - born 2003 and Will - born 2005) attend Beech schools. They have 2 dogs (Stella and Jiggy), one cat (FiFi), 3 chickens (Sandy, Zaxby, and Popeye) and two horses (Jessie and Blue).
Dr. Phil Wentz
Dr. Phil Wentz completed a Bachelors of Science Degree in Animal Science at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He attended University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine graduating with his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in May of 1995. After three years of active service in the Army Veterinary Corps, he completed a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine and a Masters Degree in Biomedical Sciences at Auburn University in 2001. In July 2005, he achieved board certification as a Large Animal Internal Medicine Specialist and is a member of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. He enjoys all aspects of practice. As an Internal Medicine Specialist at Orchard Park Animal Hospital he will apply his specialized training to treat small animals. He also enjoys educating owners on wellness, dental, and surgical care. Dr. Wentz maintains memberships in the American, Kentucky, and Tennessee Veterinary Medical Associations and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. His family is grounded by his wonderful wife, Dr. Candy Wentz and wonderful son Liam. His hobbies include hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting.
Dr. April Lynch-Zimmerman

Dr. Lynch initially practiced in Nashville but lived and worked in the Lancaster, PA area for 15 years. She and her husband are the proud parents of 2 girls (Cadence, Sarina), 2 boys (Clayton, Micah), 2 guinea pigs (Peanut, Popcorn), and a gecko named Spotty. When not working, Dr. Lynch enjoys traveling, photography, creative writing, sports (especially UK basketball), and being a soccer mom. Drs. Dana and Ted Horner
Drs. Ted and Dana Horner are both graduates of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. They started their veterinary careers in Cross Plains in 1998 with the purchase of Hoof & Paw Animal Clinic. The practice underwent a name change and moved to White House in 2007 where Orchard Park Animal Hospital was established. After almost 20 years, the Drs. Horner sold their portion of the business to UTCVM classmates, the Drs. Cothern. They plan to continue working at the practice and look forward to having more free time to spend with family and friends. The Horner's and their daughter Sydney reside in the area with their dog (Harlee), three cats, (Elsa, Willie, and Samantha), and a gecko (Toothless)
